Jose Ochoa replaces Carlos Tortolero as the head of the National Museum of Mexican Art. Ochoa, the former executive and artistic director of ChiArts, previously served as the superintendent of the Cultural Arts department in Nashville, Tennessee.

Ochoa takes over from Carlos Tortolero, who resigned from the position on December 31 after 40 years. Ochoa expressed his excitement in a statement, calling it the honor of a lifetime and a full-circle moment.

Tortolero was one of the educators who founded the museum in 1982, known as the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum, opening its doors in 1987 at 1852 W. 19th St.
