Title: Founder

Cristina Garcia is a native New Yorker and first-generation Latina working at the intersection of clean energy and diversity.

In 2017, Garcia founded the group Latinxs In Sustainability, a collective dedicated to advancing the representation of Latinx professionals and communities in climate solutions. Through LIS, she has spearheaded an inclusive mentorship program that matches professionals with similar lived experiences and a professional development stipend to support Latinx professionals with economic barriers.

Through LIS, she has also curated over 50 events focused on the Latinx experience within the sustainability industry and elevated the voices of over 60 Latinx professionals. She developed LiS’ first workforce development program with the City College of New York — a Hispanic-serving institute in New York City where most students are the first in their families to attend college — to help connect students to industry. Garcia’s experience as a first-generation Latina and CCNY graduate has driven her dedication to bring opportunities to the Latinx community seeking careers in sustainability.

Words of wisdom: “Systemic change and equitable representation of our community requires action.  Let’s not only ensure a seat at the table but also build our own table, where we drive decisions around climate action and environmental justice.”
