SPRINGFIELD, Illinois — Clemente Nicado, publisher of Negocios Now, has been selected for outstanding achievement in business by Illinois Treasurer Michael W. Frerichs to mark Hispanic Heritage Month.
“I was surprised to have been contacted by Treasurer Frerichs,” Nicado said. “From its beginning in 2007, the mission of Negocios Now has been to raise up Hispanic business and businesspeople. I am very honored to be included among the people he has selected for this year.”
Negocios Now has received more than 20 awards from the National Association of Hispanic Publications. In 2012, the Chicago Headline Club gave the publication its prestigious Peter Lisagor Award for General Excellence, a first for any Hispanic newspaper in Chicago. Last June, Nicado was selected as a board member of Allies for Community Business, former Accion Chicago.
An interview of Nicado by Frerichs will be posted on the treasurer’s office website for Heritage Month celebrations:
Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
