Meet Leynee Cruz – Latinos 40 Under 40 Class of 2018

Licensed in both Florida and Illinois, Attorney Leynee Cruz delivers top-notch client assistance and guidance along with a practical approach and unparalleled responsiveness.

Leynee advises her clients, who some have suffered great loss, with compassion and respect in all aspects of probate and guardianship administration as well as the litigation process. Some of her specialties include drafting powers of attorneys, wills, trusts, transfer on death instruments, counseling clients on the distribution of non-probate assets and presenting accountings on behalf of individual guardians and financial institutions. She is also at times appointed as Guardian Ad Litem by Cook County Probate Division judges on guardianship matters. Leynee also provides representation in trust and estate administration matters.

While practicing in South Florida, Leynee worked alongside Cuban attorneys, in Havana, Cuba, representing Cuban national beneficiaries.

Leynee received her J.D and Certificate in Elder Law from St. Thomas University School of Law, in Florida. Prior to receiving her degree she founded and served as president of the Elder Law Society, which was recognized in 2013 as the SBA Organization of the Year.

Her passion for elder law extends well beyond her practice. In 2014, she volunteered at the Center for Disability & Elder Law in Chicago where she advised, drafted and executed estate-planning documents for low-income elderly and disabled clients. Leynee is currently a member of the Young Professionals Board for the Center for Disability & Elder Law.

In addition, Leynee serves as president-elect of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois and is member of the Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association and Women’s Bar Association. Super Lawyers Magazine selected Leynee as a Rising Star. An honor earned by only 2.5 percent of Illinois attorneys.

In her free time, Leynee enjoys exploring Chicago, traveling to new places and going to the beach. She stays active by practicing yoga and skiing.
