As an HR Leader for Amazon Web Services (AWS), Justin Gonzalez coaches and advises business leaders on how to grow their businesses through employee experiences.
In his capacity, he works as a strategic business partner with Data Center Infrastructure Operations and Engineering leaders. One of the misconceptions he has had to overcome is the belief that an HR professional is an administrative role involved simply in hiring and firing. Or worse, the authoritative person is simply there to get people in trouble, which is not the case.
While he admits those are some aspects of the job, as a Global HRBP he serves as a coach and an advisor on how to increase their businesses with positive employee experiences. That includes people and compensation strategies, organizational growth and scale, designing roles, and training & development for career growth.
He also analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the AWS HR team to develop solutions, programs, and policies to help resolve complex employee issues.
Prior to Amazon, he was the Director, HR Business Partner for Under Armour where he supported the Global Product, Merchandising, Design, and Innovation organizations. He is passionate about developing people in their careers and being a mentor.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration and Finance from Towson University.
After being introduced to HACE more than three years ago by his Teammate Resource Group at Under Armour, he has recognized the major impact the organization has had on his career. HACE’s programs have helped develop aspiring talent and have brought together diverse groups.
He said being able to connect with others in the Hispanic community and learn from them has been very impactful. He credits HACE’s programs for leadership development and events for helping him accelerate his career and build a strong, incredible network.
