Jose Luis Martinez leads the oncology marketing efforts for Bayer Pharmaceuticals in the United States as marketing director. He oversees $200 million in sales and lifecycle management for the gastrointestinal cancer portfolio.

Before this, he was the prostate cancer lead in Latin America, where he made Bayer the leader in the region. Jose Luis is the first and only Latino hired directly from Latin America to a U.S. role at Bayer.

Jose Luis started his career at Roche in his native Mexico. During more than 12 years in the pharmaceutical industry with Bayer and Roche, Covarrubias has held roles of increasing responsibility and is a seasoned pharmaceutical leader with experience across five countries including the United States, Switzerland, India, Brazil, and Mexico.

Passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion, Jose Luis is the leader of Unidos, Bayer’s Latin employee resource group. During the first year of his tenure, Unidos grew from 650 to 1,100 members and launched globally, creating the first overseas chapter in Germany. He further championed DEI by speaking about Latino inclusion in corporate America at the Hispanic leadership summit held at the United Nations where he provided clear examples of how to create, improve, and grow successful, impactful, and inclusive ERGs.

He is an avid traveler and has explored more than 70 countries. Jose Luis lives in New Jersey with his wife and three daughters.
