Bio: Socorro M. Garcia is the president of the Chicago chapter of Prospanica, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering the Hispanic community to achieve its full educational, economic and social potential. Under Garcia’s leadership, the Chicago chapter was awarded Prospanica’s National Community Service Award and Sprouting Leaders’ Champion Youth Award for its summer-enrichment program.

Garcia is employed by the National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors in Chicago. Previously, she worked as a program director for the Latin American Chamber of Commerce.

Garcia was a founding member of the Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement (HACE) Young Professionals Board and the Mujeres de HACE Advisory Board. She assisted in the creation of the mission, bylaws and board structure for both. Garcia is a proud member of Gamma Phi Omega International Sorority, where she served on the National Board of Directors for seven years and held the position of national president. For her outstanding leadership, Garcia was featured in The Limited’s “The New Look of Leadership” campaign.

In addition to serving on numerous nonprofit boards over the last decade, Garcia mentors a high school student through HFS Chicago Scholars. She also raises funds and volunteers annually for the American Diabetes Association’s Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes.

Socorro holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Indiana University Bloomington.
