The stand-out lobbyist
Title: External Affairs Manager for Chicago North
Name of Organization: Commonwealth Edison
Bio: In a classic immigrant story, Lizbeth Ramirez immigrated to Chicago from Guadalajara, Mexico in 1993. Ramirez’s early years in Mexico shaped her desire to give back, which is evident in both her public and private life.
Ramirez studied political science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and became a program specialist for Illinois House Speaker Michael J. Madigan. In that role, she worked with Democratic legislators to develop and implement legislation. She engaged a broad range of community organizations, civic groups and political leaders on issues ranging from education to redistricting. She also worked on behalf of candidates supported by the Democratic Party of Illinois by managing campaigns and contributing to winning strategies throughout the state.
Three years ago, Ramirez joined ComEd’s in-house lobbying team in Springfield, where she worked to pass legislation that put Illinois at the forefront of investing in renewable energy and creating jobs. In 2016, she received recognition from Capitol Fax as the “best in-house lobbyist.”
Ramirez serves as an in-house lobbyist in Chicago and Cook County for ComEd, where she works directly with elected officials on initiatives relevant to the company.
She also finds time to volunteer with organizations that promote women’s advancement and leadership, such as Leadership Illinois. She serves on the boards for the Rauner Family YMCA and the Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus Foundation.
