Bio: Carlos Y. Vale was born and raised in Puerto Rico until the age of 7, when he and his family moved to Elgin, Illinois. Throughout his childhood, Vale was involved in the community and earned his first Excellence in Service Award before age 13.

Over the past six years Vale has co-chaired The George Washington University’s Chicago Alumni Network, served as a board member of ALPFA Chicago and the Illinois Technology Foundation, and been an active member of the Society for Human Resource Management and the Chicago Loop Alliance. He also is involved with the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, where he was recognized as an emerging leader.

Vale has successfully pivoted across a variety of industries. At 20, he managed a $15 million retail business, leading a team of up to 125 people while going to school full-time. Upon earning his degree from The George Washington University, he transitioned to government and worked for U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff from California. Then Vale moved back to Chicago and began a career with Robert Morris University that lasted more than eight years. As one of the university’s youngest senior managers, he worked arduously to set and achieve goals that would support the school’s mission to serve the underserved. Most recently, he became Groupon’s Head of Diversity Recruitment. There, he leads the company’s global diversity recruiting strategy to build pipelines of talent for critical positions across all levels.

When Vale isn’t working, he enjoys traveling, playing volleyball and the performing arts.
