Bio: As a lawyer and a nurse, Anna M. Lozoya has served as a catalyst for change in Chicago. Lozoya is the Risk Manager at Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. In this position, she uses her experience as an attorney, auditor and nurse to ensure that veterans receive optimal care. She advises the medical center director and others on topics such as corporate compliance, medical malpractice, health care standards of practice and patient safety.

Previously, she served as the in-house counsel for a real-estate investment firm, where she handled all aspects of commercial and residential litigation and transactions. Lozoya is the founder and principal of Lozoya Legal Consulting, LLC, a national health care consulting firm that advises health care organizations on regulatory, policy and auditing issues.

Lozoya also mentors young Latinos and Latinas interested in health care law. She volunteers as a nurse at health fairs and at nonprofit, community-based health care organizations to educate the Latino community about common diseases.

She sits on the board of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois and is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association’s Health Care Section Council. Lozoya is the only Latina and nurse to serve on the council. In 2016, Lozoya received the Presidential Leadership Award from the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois. Last year, she was named one of the Hispanic National Bar Association’s Top Lawyers Under 40 and Pro Bono Attorney of the Year for her legal advocacy on behalf of Latinos and seniors in Chicago.
