This is a full-time position requiring 40 or more hours per week, Monday through Friday. Normal working hours are from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, but the hours will vary depending on specific tasks given. There may be occasional weekend work required to meet deadlines; you must be flexible. Short-term travel and overnight stays should be expected and will be required. Responsibilities include:
- Performs inspections of street, sidewalk, water, and sewer projects under supervision of Engineer/ Senior Technician
- Verifies existing field conditions, checks calculations and prepares review comments.
- Assists the Project Engineer in reviewing public infrastructure project plans and specifications prepared by others.
- Maintains written logs of fieldwork progress, and assists Project Engineer in the development of maintenance and repair projects.
- Assists in surveying, preparation of plans and specifications, and bid package preparation. Drafts detailed dimensional drawings; calculates quantities of materials; develops detailed cost estimates.
- Completes basic computer data management and mapping projects.
- accomplished, discussions with contractors, and field conditions. Documents noncompliance with plans and specifications.
- Assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum requirements to competently perform the key responsibilities of this job in terms of educational background, work experience, licenses/certifications, physical requirements and other knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED. An Associate Degree in Engineering or equivalent is preferred, but not required.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Must possess strong organization, customer service, and communication skills.
- Must be computer literate and fluent in use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and CAD software
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to perform in various weather conditions and traverse rough terrain.
- Must have basic understanding and use of survey equipment, such as a level, rod, and measuring wheel.
- Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Ability to adapt to changing technologies and learn the functionality of new equipment.
- Work is performed in both the field and an office environment.
