#27 – Mike Moreno

Education in spirits

Age: 27

Title: Co-Owner & Director of Craft Sales

Name of Organization: Moreno’s LIquors

Mike is the vice-president of Moreno’s Liquors in the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago. His lifelong pursuit has always been to manage and help grow his family business, a staple in the community for over 41yrs.

Mike graduated with a degree in business management & entrepreneurial studies from DePaul University. He began working full-time at the store in 2014. During this period, he worked on the branding and marketing of the store, helping to create the largest and niche selection of craft beer and spirits on the south side of Chicago.

Over the years Mike’s efforts has put Moreno’s Liquors on the map as one of the largest retailers of Tequila, Mezcal & Latin spirits in the nation and has been recognized in DNA Info, Chicago Sun-times, Chicago Tribune and Beverage Dynamics.

Despite all this, Mike’s entrepreneurial endeavors didn’t stop there. In 2015, he went on to start a small brokerage firm, focused on marketing and importing spirits into Illinois. During this same period, Mike also began getting heavily involved in local politics, and currently sits as Chairman of the SSA #25 (City of Chicago Special Service Area) for the Little Village Community. Over the years Mike has also devoted time to Esperanza, Junior Achievements & Global Brigades.

As his entrepreneurial endeavors move forward, Mike has begun construction on a community craft bar, Osito’s Tap. It will be attached to Moreno’s Liquors and focused on craft beer, spirits and cocktails.

He plans to use the space to not only bring educational seminars on the products that he sells, but to also raise awareness on the culture the Little Village Community has to offer.
