Age: 26

Title: Diversity & Inclusion Associate

Name of Organization: Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago

Karina is a Diversity & Inclusion Associate at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago (FRBC) where she helps cultivate a culture of inclusivity and belonging through her leadership and oversight of the Bank’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). This past year, she served on the committee that lead the Bank’s first Future Leaders Program, a conference that raised awareness among high school/college students about the various opportunities in the Technology (IT)/Information Security (IS) space.

She holds an M.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Roosevelt University and a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Women & Gender Studies from Loyola University Chicago (Go Ramblers!).

Her passion for D&I started at her Alma Mater where she was a student leader for underrepresented students under the Student Diversity and Multicultural Affairs Office. At Loyola, she was also involved in other leadership positions including the VP of the Latino Organization and a Residence Assistant.

As a daughter of immigrants and a first-generation college graduate, Karina understands the value of mentorship, access, and representation. She is very engaged in the community and shares her story of resilience in hopes of sparking inspiration in others. She serves as the Executive Vice President for Prospanica Chicago, sits on the Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement’s Young Professionals Board as the Professional Development Co-Chair, and serves on the Illinois Diversity Council as the Secretary and Young Professional Liaison where she is developing a resource group for millennials.

Outside of work and volunteering, Karina enjoys cooking vegan food, hanging out with friends, and practicing self-care.
