Milwaukee, December 9, – WEC Energy Group (NYSE: WEC) announced today that Bocanegra, previously the chief legal and government relations officer at the Port of Cleveland, will assume her new role effective Jan. 2, 2025.

In her new role, Bocanegra will oversee the daily operations, strategy, and administrative activities of the two Illinois utilities. Collectively, they provide safe, reliable natural gas service to nearly 1 million customers in Chicago and 54 communities in its northern suburbs. She will report directly to Lauber.
Bocanegra holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Quincy University and a Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law.
Before her tenure at the Port of Cleveland, she was a commissioner with the Illinois Commerce Commission, where she regulated electric, natural gas, and water utilities. She conducted outreach on energy and water issues with the City of Chicago. Earlier in her career, she worked as an administrative law judge for the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission, was a Leadership Academy Fellow with the City of Chicago Latino Caucus Foundation, and practiced law at the firm Katz Friedman.
