Nancy Razón

Age: 38

Title: Educator, Founder Youth Movement, Co-Author

Name of Organization: Youth Movement

Nancy Razón received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in education from Northern Illinois University, and began her career as a bilingual teacher for her home town’s Belvidere School District, where she has taken an active role in improving the educational resources available to students in both elementary and secondary schools.

Her bi-cultural background, connection to the community, and expertise in language, coupled with her keen knowledge of Latino needs within her community led her to act and serve as a liaison for public informational sessions with her local mayor’s office, as well as police and fire departments.

The philosophies Razón learned in education along with her life experiences inspired her to start the first and only leadership youth group to serve Belvidere’s middle and high school Latino students. This program works to help students discover their strengths, unveil their full potential and achieve their individual educational goals and learning leadership skills.

She has served as president and secretary of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) of Belvidere, president of the District 100 Bilingual Parent Advisory Council (BPAC), served on the board of the Ida Public Library and the YWCA of Northwestern Illinois.  She currently serves as secretary for her son’s Cub Scouts organization and is a proud graduate of Latinas on the Plaza – Leadership Mastery Institute.

As a leader, Nancy sets the leadership bar high for herself and she doesn’t just preach leadership – she works hard to live it and teach others to do the same.
