Latino Caucus Honors 2019 Recipients of Chicago Latino Caucus Foundation Scholarship

Chicago, IL – The Chicago City Council Latino Caucus is honoring today the 20 recipients of the 2019 Latino Caucus Foundation Scholarship with a breakfast reception at University of Illinois at Chicago 8:30 am – 11:00 am.

The Latino Caucus formed the Chicago Latino Caucus Foundation to support the advancement of Latino students through scholarship, internship and mentorship opportunities. The Foundation was formed around the belief that neither income nor ethnicity should ever limit one’s education, hopes or dreams. The Latino Caucus, in recognition of the hard work and dedication of these students, will present copies of the resolution to each of the scholarship recipients. To date, the Foundation has awarded a total of $330,000 to 66 Chicago youth. Each student receives a non-renewable $5,000 scholarship payable to the student’s university of choice.

Caucus Foundation Chair Gilbert Villegas (36th Ward) will present remarks to the scholarship recipients and their families. Members of the Caucus and Foundation will be available for comment after the reception. The Caucus includes 12 members from across the city including ex officio member City Clerk Anna Valencia. In addition to Chairman Villegas and City Clerk Valencia, Foundation membership includes Alderman Susan Sadlowski Garza – 10th Ward, Alderman George Cardenas – 12th Ward, Alderman Michael Rodriguez – 22nd Ward, Alderman Silvana Tabares – 23rd Ward, Alderman Bryan Sigcho-Lopez – 25th Ward, Alderman Roberto Maldonado – 26th Ward, Alderman Ariel Reboyras – 30th Ward,  Alderman Rossana Rodriguez Sanchez – 33rd Ward, Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa – 35th Ward, Alderman Andre Vasquez – 40th Ward.
