Julio Paz named president of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Chicago

Julio Paz has been appointed as the next president of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, effective June 1, 2026, as the institution marks its 30th anniversary.

Paz joins from Chicago Commons, where he serves as Chief External Affairs Officer, leading fundraising, communications, marketing, and government relations strategies. His career includes leadership roles at The Resurrection Project, Mercy Housing, and Project Exploration.

“I am deeply honored and excited to join the Cristo Rey Jesuit High School community as its next president,” Paz said, highlighting the school’s model of combining faith, rigorous academics, and opportunity to transform students’ lives.

A lifelong member of Chicago’s Pilsen community, Paz is known for his commitment to social justice and economic opportunity. He is a graduate of St. Ignatius College Prep, University of Chicago, and DePaul University Kellstadt Graduate School of Business.

His appointment was approved by Karl J. Kiser, Provincial of the Midwest Jesuits, who also expressed gratitude for the leadership of Antonio Ortiz, who is stepping down after more than a decade as president.

Paz succeeds Ortiz and will lead the school into its next chapter, focused on expanding educational opportunity and strengthening Cristo Rey’s mission for future generations.
