Homero Tristan, founder of the law firm Tristan & Cervantes, will be honored with the Small Business Award during the Negocios Now Gala on July 25 at Chicago’s historic Old Post Office. A respected attorney, civic leader, and advocate for Latino representation, Tristan has built a career rooted in integrity, public service, and entrepreneurial spirit.
Mr. Tristan began his legal journey as a federal prosecutor with the National Labor Relations Board, where he led investigations and litigated complex labor cases under the National Labor Relations Act. He later joined one of the nation’s largest labor and employment law firms, representing Fortune 500 companies and gaining national recognition in his field.
His legal excellence has been consistently recognized. Tristan is a multi-year recipient of the Illinois Super Lawyer Award in Government, Employment, and Labor Law (2009, 2010, 2017, 2018, and 2020–2024), a testament to his expertise and reputation among peers.
In 2008 and 2009, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley appointed Tristan to a cabinet position in city government, where he played a key role in navigating the administration through an economic crisis. That experience deepened his understanding of public affairs and governmental operations—insights he now brings to private clients facing high-stakes, multi-dimensional challenges.
More than just a legal advisor, Tristan serves as a strategic partner to clients, blending his legal acumen with political insight and business savvy. He has played critical roles in civic and governmental matters, including serving as legal counsel to the Chicago Aldermanic Latino Caucus during two redistricting efforts and representing civic groups during the 2010 state redistricting process.
An active force in the Latino community, Tristan is a founding member of the Latino Leadership Council and chairs its Endorsement Committee. He also serves as General Counsel and Board Member for the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Residing in the Pilsen area with his twin boys and their pet cat, Homero Tristan continues to uplift his community through leadership, mentorship, and advocacy—making him a deserving recipient of this year’s Small Business Award.
