As a first-generation student and a son of immigrants, Hector Marquez understands how essential organizations like HACE are to the next generation of leaders.

HACE helps to empower individuals to build themselves up to make a difference. HACE does this by creating trailblazers within their communities and cities all over the country.

As a result, he believes HACE is helping these individuals create a global impact and their values and missions are passed on leading by example. He believes minority students need to see people they can relate to in leadership positions.

To be effective change-makers, they need role models that look like them, sound like them, and have similar roots and backgrounds.

As a graduate student at Sam Houston University, he believes higher education is the field that makes dreams come true and opens doorways to better lives.

He believes this so much that he is working on his master’s degree in Higher Education/Higher Education Administration. He believes that by educating others you give them the tools they need to succeed in life. His personal belief is that knowledge is power and he is here to empower as many people as he can.

Along with earning his master’s degree, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Houston-Downtown.

He is currently working at Lone Star College, one of the largest community colleges in the country. He serves as the school’s library services coordinator where he oversees library services, tutoring, and testing.
