Fatima Garcia is an exceptional legal professional who has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to community service and the advancement of women and minorities. Early in her career, she recognized the importance of paving the way for others to achieve their highest potential, and she has continued to invest in these efforts throughout her life.

Fatima’s dedication to service began during her time at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) School of Law, where she served as co-president of the Hispanic National Bar Association’s (HNBA) Student Division for Region IX and as Vice President of UIC’s Latino Law Student Association. She was actively involved in fundraising and organizing events, including the Illinois Latino Law School Forum, which provides guidance to Latinx high school and undergraduate students interested in pursuing legal careers. Additionally, she volunteered with “Tomcat Talks” at East Aurora High School, offering mentorship and guidance to students navigating the transition from high school to college and careers.

In 2023, Fatima founded the Mi Camino Scholarship, which supports a female student from an Aurora high school pursuing a career in law. Fatima’s contributions extend beyond her volunteer work; she has also served as a Latina Commissioner for the HNBA, co-chaired the Pearls of Wisdom event, and organized virtual events for Latina undergraduate students interested in law school.

Currently, Fatima works as a tax attorney for the Internal Revenue Service, Office of Chief Counsel, specializing in tax controversy. Her previous experience includes working for a national law firm and Big Four accounting firms. Fatima has been recognized as a Best Lawyers: One to Watch in America in Tax Law, a Top Lawyer Under 40 by the HNBA, and has been selected as an inaugural Fellow of the Loretta Collins Argrett Fellowship as well as a fellow for the 2025 Chicago Latino Caucus Foundation Leadership Academy. These accolades reflect her exceptional qualifications and her dedication to both the law and the community.
