Brian Castro was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and grew up in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, where his parents still reside. Brian moved to Ames, Iowa to pursue an engineering degree in 2006.

Brian moved to Chicago in 2015 to work as a civil engineering consultant. Over the years, Brian participated in key projects within the Chicagoland area which include the reconstruction of I-90 from Schaumburg to Elgin, reconstruction of I-294 from Oak Lawn to Rosemont and I-490 Elgin-O’Hare Western Access. Brian worked his way up the career ladder with multiple projects transitioning from Project Engineer to Project Manager to Department Manager.

In 2025, Brian, along with his business partner Shyam Raj purchased AAA Engineering, LTD. As majority owner and CEO, Brian oversees a company of 35 professionals that provides MEP design services, traction power and construction management to clients such as Metra, CTA, Illinois Tollway, IDOT and Cook County. AAA has participated in very important projects which include the Red Purple Line Modernization, Red Line Extension, O’Hare and Hinsdale Oasis redevelopment and Cook County Administration Building rehabilitation. In addition, Brian serves as the Principal and Program Manager for the Construction Oversight of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations that have received NEVI, RAA or CFI grants on behalf of the Illinois Department of Transportation, Office of Planning and Programming. Brian understands his responsibility as one of the few Latino owners of an engineering firm in the State of Illinois.

AAA Engineering was recently selected at the 2026 Small Business Professional of the Year Award by the Hispanic Association Construction Industry Association.

Brian is very engaged within the Infrastructure Industry, serving as the Regional Luncheons Committee Chair of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois, Government Relations Committee Chair for the American Society of Civil Engineers, and Professional Services Committee member and Civil Engagement Committee member for the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association.
