Christian Castan?eda still resides in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago where he grew up. He discovered his love of mathematics and physics while at the University of Chicago Laboratory High School and went on to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he received his bachelor’s in Engineering Mechanics and discovered his natural leadership ability.

 

Castan?eda has always been a critical thinking problem solver. Upon graduating from college, he began to utilize his engineering skills to ensure that critical facilities, such as hospitals and government organizations, secured various means of power in emergencies. He programmed and designed fuel filtration systems to ensure backup generators were activated in cases of emergencies.

 

Castan?eda works as a project engineer at Alar Engineering Corporation, helping a variety of clients across multiple industries solve industrial & environmental wastewater problems. He has excelled in programming complex systems as well as developing and standardizing system programs.

 

In addition to his work in the engineering field, Castan?eda serves as secretary of the Young Professional Board (HYPB) for the Hispanic Association for Career Enhancement, which provides networking, professional development and mentorship resources to Latinos. As secretary, he aims to help improve the organization and efficiency of the group. He is a strong believer that education provides the knowledge, skills, and values needed to succeed.

 

Through his work with HYPB, he hopes to strengthen the resource services for Latino

youth and guide them to a successful career.
