“The first Who is Who in Hispanic Chicago event last year was a success,” said Clemente Nicado, publisher of Negocios Now. “This celebration is not just to recognize the Hispanic community contribution, but we are pleased to have strong support from the Latino leaders,” he said.
In the first edition, Negocios Now recognized Robert Bob Ontiveros (Group O) with the Lifetime Achievement Award; James S. Cabrera (UBM Services) for Business of the Year; Maria Prado and Hilda Renteria (Prado & Renteria) with the Latinas in Business Award; George Burciaga (elevateDIGITAL) as Innovator of the Year; Carmen Velasquez (Alivio Medical Center) with the Community Champion Award; and Diego Ferrer with El Amigo de Negocios Now Award.
Regarding the event, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said, “Chicago is home to a vibrant and dynamic Latino community that has strengthened our culture for generations through entrepreneurship, civic involvement, and the arts. I commend Clemente Nicado and the Negocios Now team for recognizing the steadfast work of these individuals who continue to enlighten all of us while empowering the Latino community.”
U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President & 211CEO Javier Palomarez said, “Chicago’s thriving Hispanic business community was proudly showcased at our 2013 USHCC National Convention, where thousands of local entrepreneurs and executives joined to demonstrate the city’s pro-business environment and unstoppable growth. The USHCC is proud of visionary leaders like Clemente Nicado who have been strong advocates of Chicago’s small business community and continue to mainstream the story of the Hispanic entrepreneur.”
